The addition of two new high speed rail lines on the West Coast Main Line situated at Bourne Brook, Lichfield required the diversion and extension of various large diameter trunk mains beneath the existing and proposed tracks. IWS Pipeline Services were commissioned by Network Rail to manage the works.
Safety, as always, was of paramount importance on this project with close liaison between all parties involved in the project to ensure all hazards and risks were appropriately addressed and the works undertaken in a safe manner at all times.
Due to the sensitivity of the operations, close liaison was managed by Underground Pipeline Services between Network Rail and South Staffordshire Water Plc. Works were carried out under track possession permission with activities being carried out through the night Friday to Monday to ensure completion.
